Another month, another post. I've read that blogging is on the way out, especially for 15-25 year olds. Apparently they feel it takes too much time, twittering or quick updates on FB are much easier. Fortunately I'm way past that age range so I can still blog away with impunity. You do have to evaluate whether it's worth the time it takes to peck out something worth reading every few days, so my modest target here is now one-per-month. That's seems to be what it has defaulted to anyway. So far I've resisted the temptation to join some kind of mafia/ farm/ medieval warfare/ zoo game on Facebook, although I have noticed many formerly respected peers and mentors have given in to their baser instincts. Oh well, probably better than sitting in front of the tube, which of course hasn't used tubes in several years. Someday my grandkids will ask me "What's Facebook?" I'll probably just tell them it was a good way to kill a little free time, a long time ago when people used to have to go to the trouble of pushing lettered buttons to communicate. My fingers are cramping; must be time to get on with real life. Here's a picture I like- doesn't matter if it's the splash park on Daytona Beach or the splash area in a Japanese mall, every kid likes water. This little girl is dry now, but 2 minutes later, she was soaked head to toe. |

Trying a little experiment. Since we are missionaries, in the past some supporters have asked if they can contribute via PayPal. Well here you go! Give it a try. |

Yesterday at house church 2 elderly Japanese ladies came. 1 first time visitor- Yuko's mom who we have all been praying would come. The other lady, Shield's neighbor, started coming after the BBQ. They are 71 and 76 years old but have very different childhood experiences, one Catholic upbringing, the other Buddhist. Pray that God works on both ladies as they come and read/hear His Word. Skyler Shields was immersed Sunday, praise for that and pray for his growth in Christ. Getting colder in Tokyo, 40's at night. In kid news-- Kayla's JV Volleyball team won 1st place in their Kanto area tournament and she made Varsity basketball team. Seth and I are playing a couple of specials on sax, trumpet for Christmas Eve. Christian is singing today at a children's choir festival in nearby Tokorozawa City. Kim has parent/teacher conferences this week. We are all looking foward to a big T-Giving dinner on Thursday, with other missionaries and a couple of brave Japanese eaters. |

We got back last week and still doing the initial start-up stuff. Yesterday I got the scooter insured by a nice grandma at the bike shop down the street, they called back at night to say that they'd accidentally kept some of my old paperwork and wanted me to come get it. The owner was there to give me a lovely hand towel as an apology gift. We talked about the 2 former people he noticed who owned my scooter, one now in Albania, the other in India at the moment. I got 2 years of insurance since it was only $20 more than 1 year. Although I'm not sure the scooter is gonna last that long, but it might, it's about 25 years old already. Also got the car out of shaken (inspection) last night. $900 something for the inspection and gov't fees, and another $800 for brakes, tires and CV boots. It actually looks pretty good inside since part of the crazy costs of doing this every 2 years includes cleaning the car up. And they changed the oil for free they said. This is all the Japanese version of cash for clunkers program, but it is in reverse- the car owner pays a lot of cash and the gov't OK's you to drive your clunker for another 2 years. The mechanic told me he went to college in California and was shocked that he only had to pay $40 there and the inspection consisted of looking at the color of the exhaust. Now now all the vehicles are legal. The overgrown bush on the side of our house is chopped down to a frightened little seedling. Most weeds are pulled. Still have to take our souvenirs around to the neighbors. Lady next door got up early this morning to sweep up a bunch of cigarettes left in the street in front of her house. But we'll wait for the right timing to give her the gifts. Christian has 'meet the teacher' day today. One of his 2 teachers is his mom, so that should be pretty intimidating for him. All 3 kids went by train to a pool yesterday in a city nearby. Kayla left early for Volleyball practice, the boys got home at 5:30 sunburnt even though they said they 're-applied' suncreen 3 times. House church was good Sunday, we talked about what God did/taught us this summer since. Bring your own lunch day. 1 lady is ready to take Japan for Jesus, another family is having serious troubles. We got news yesterday that a church in FL where we have some old friends has decided to give us a good one-time gift, praise God. Still hoping for some other churches we visited this summer to come though. The flight over was not very fun but we made it all together at least. I wonder why an airline would only have 1 tv screen on a flight lasting 14 hours? Oh well, got some reading done. And I had a window seat so I could lean on the side and get some sleep. The buddy passes definitely saved money but waiting around the airports for available seats and packing and unpacking several times was no fun at all. At least the Turner's connected us with some friends in Atlanta who put us up at their nice house on the lake. Kim's at the school. Time to get the kids up and going. |

Well, this weekend was more than I expected. This weekend was finally the breakthrough that our little group of Japanese seekers needed. We asked a network of house churches in Osaka led by Chad H. if we could be a part of their group; when we did this we had no idea the help we would get. We thought that we would be getting a link to a web site and a connection to another body of believers; instead, we got a spiritual boost out-of-this-worldly. Chad and Keiji prayed with, for, over and on behalf of our attenders. It was roof shattering. The things that were holding them back from completely getting past past hurts and wounds, even all the way back to childhood, are coming down. It was more than I expected and more than I could have hoped. Now, to do some serious damage in the spiritual realm...look out Satan, you're about to get your butt kicked.

We are pleased at the way things are falling into place for our summer home service. The calendar is packed and I cannot imagine squeezing in one more appointment but I would if you asked nicely. |

The U.S. has gotten itself in quite a pickle. The pickle I'm speaking of is gay marriage. Why, for the last 200 years of U.S history, has gay marriage never been an issue? Now, for some reason, gay marriage is okay? Even though the American people in many states have voted, some more than once, and agree that marriage should be kept between a man and a woman. One of the best suggestions for keeping marriage between a man and a woman that I've heard is asking this question; if marriage is acceptable between same sex people, then where does the definition of marriage end? Can a woman and a horse be wed? Can an old man and an eight year old girl be wed? Of course we would say 'no way' to these suggestions!! BUT, we were saying 'no way' to the idea of two same sex people getting married just 10 years ago. What has changed? The people we have in office now is what has gotten us into this pickle, beginning with the president. There is a hate crimes bill that is about to pass the senate, and has already passed the house. When it passes, and it will pass, it will silence preachers, Christians and supporters of traditional family values, all across America. Mark my words, the freedom of speech that our country so freely enjoys, is coming to an end. If you don't believe me, give it a good 10 years. If this blog is still around, you will call me a prophetess. So, I'm writing this while I still can, for my children and their children. |
